Questions parents ask

Is this right for my child?

UTL is a competitive rec league built around friends. There's no draft: players sign up together, teams are grouped by grade, and many have stayed together for several seasons.

New players are always welcome. Sign up with your friends, even a whole team of them, and we'll keep you together. Or sign up on your own and we'll find you a team in your grade.

Does flag prepare kids for high school football and beyond?

Yes. Many UTL players have gone on to play high school football and beyond. Flag builds the skills that carry over: speed, footwork, route running, reading the defense and catching the ball. See our players at the next level

Can my child play with friends?

Yes. Teams are built from friend requests. Request your friends at signup so your group can play together. Bringing a whole team? Have each player request their teammates. Many teams stay together season after season.

What does registration include?

A full season of games in your player's division and a team jersey. Spring also includes shorts. Flags are provided on game day, and every game is scored live for the whole family.

Where and when are games?

Fall: Saturday nights at Veterans Park.

Winter: Saturday afternoons at Cape Fear Academy, Dec 12 – Jan 30.

Spring: Friday nights at Veterans Park, Apr 9 – May 21.

See every date and get directions

How do games and practices work?

Games are 6 on 6 flag football. Teams practice for an hour before each game at the field. Some coaches also set up a weekday practice.

See how the game is played and the full league rules.

What should my player bring?

Cleats (no metal spikes) and a mouthguard. Flags are provided by the league.

What if the weather is bad?

Weather calls are posted at the top of every page on this site, on live scores and on our Facebook page.

How do I get to my team page?

Once teams are set, each family gets an email from ILM Flag with their own private team page link: the schedule, practices, roster and team chat. Lost it? Find my team page: type the email you registered with and we'll send it again.

How do I follow my child's games?

Open live.ilmflag.com on your phone. Refs score every play from the field, and you can turn on alerts to get a buzz when your team scores and when the final is in.
